Transportation Changes
If your child will be taking a different way home, parents should send a dated & signed note with the child stating how your child should go home that day. That way we can ensure that both teachers will know ahead and can alert the office at the beginning of the day. This also ensures that substitutes will know.
In the case one or both of us are absent due to a workshop, illness, or emergency, we can't always check our email. Substitute teachers do not have access to teachers' email accounts. Instructional time is precious so please understand that we can only check email during the day when it will not interfere with your child's learning. There are days we won’t have planning or duty-free lunch, the times we usually try to check our emails.
If there is an emergency situation that requires you to change your child's transportation during the day, please call the front office as soon as you know. The office is even busier than usual at the end of the day. Fifth grade is in specials from 2:50 until dismissal and we want to make sure your child and his/her teacher gets the message before dismissal.
Absences and Absence Calls
If you get a phone call saying your child is absent and you know your child was tardy that day, please understand that teachers are the ones who have to change the absence to an excused or unexcused tardy in the state’s computer system. Attendance is taken right after the bell rings at 9:15 and must be sent to the home office by 10:00am. The system calls after that. Teachers can only change absences when it will not impede your child's instruction, usually after school. Again, if we happen to be absent we can’t change attendance changes until we return to school ourselves.
Please remember to send an absence note in within 3 days of your child's return from absence. An email is sufficient to let us know your child will be out sick, but we still need confirmation from you after the child has returned.
If you have other concerns that require a phone call you can call the front office (919) 217-5100.
